Our History

Labyrinth House Org. was founded on December 08, 2004 by members of an ecumenical group of community leaders from local churches in the Bloomington-Normal area to find solutions to homelessness and other related issues such as mental illness and addictions.
The Task Force group met every other week for about nine months to draw up its mission, policies, procedures, and programs. In April 2005, the Holy Trinity church donated furniture and kitchen things for 4 persons which were stored in a warehouse owned by Steve Hermes for free.
A van was also donated to the organization. In June, 2005 Labyrinth House became incorporated and in September Board of Directors was formed and officers were elected. At about the same time, the policies and procedures were finalized. In December, 2005, Labyrinth House applied for 501 ( (c ) (3) and received approval in February, 2007.
Last summer, the Board Members decided to put on hold the plan to build a facility for 12 women due to lack of financial resources. They decided to start the program with four women the first couple of years and to find a 5 bedroom house for them.
